It can be easy to forget how important your teeth are. Even easier is taking…
Three Reasons to Reconsider Skipping Your Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are one of the last lines of defense for saving a badly damaged or infected tooth. If you’re hesitant about scheduling your endodontic treatment or keep putting it off, here are three things you should know:
Root Canals are Not as Scary as You Think They Are
Having a root canal is almost like getting a filling. The tooth is carefully numbed to prevent any discomfort. The only difference that you’ll notice is that the treatment takes longer than a regular filling would, because we have to treat areas further down into the tooth (the nerve canal of each root.)
The Tooth Won’t Heal Itself on its Own
An infection inside of your tooth can easily spread to the surrounding bone, teeth, and further into the body. While a pain reliever or antibiotic may help with initial inflammation and discomfort, the infection will continue to exist until the dying nerve is completely removed.
You’ll Lose Your Tooth Completely
Gradually, infected dental nerves cause the tooth to shrink away from the inside out. Eventually, there won’t be enough tooth left to repair. Instead, you’ll need to have it removed and replaced with an implant or bridge.
Schedule a Consultation to Get a 2nd Opinion
If you’ve been told that you needed a root canal in the past, we’re happy to reassess your tooth and give you a second opinion.
