Don’t Wait For The Pain

Sometimes, you just know you have a tooth that needs some professional attention.

Food tends to get stuck in it, or when you probe at it with your tongue, it feels…different.  This can happen even when your last dental exam didn’t show any cavities or decay that needed correction.

What If My Tooth Already Hurts?

Maybe you think of a dental emergency as a tooth falling out, chipping or cracking. But painful teeth are a legitimate problem for an emergency dental appointment, too.

There are a few different reasons your teeth could be hurting, like worn enamel or worn fillings, but if the pain is extreme, the most likely reason is decay or infection extending close to the nerve.

• The root may be infected; if that’s the case you’ll need a round of antibiotics and possibly a root canal. This helps the area be less painful both before the procedure and after the anesthesia wears off.
• You’ll probably need two appointments. The first is for the actual procedure where you’ll get a temporary crown. The second appointment is for the permanent crown.

Painful teeth won’t correct themselves and only get worse. Putting the treatment off will only allow the situation to advance to the point where your tooth is non-restorable.
